The leading role in these pages is played by Belgian Shepherd
dogs Nitro (Dubion
Buzzy Cat, breeder Katri Moisala), her son Ziggy (Dubion
Kung-Fu, breeder Katri Moisala) and schipperke Putte (Fandal's
Napoleon, breeder Kristiina Salo). They are taken care of by
me, Arja Kettunen. Pieces of my 20-year dog life history is to
be read in these pages too. We live in Joensuu, North Karelia,
Finland. |

Some facts about my “doggish” background
My childhood was dominated by
German shepherds. My uncle, Martti Kettunen, was an active and
successful working dog devotee (among other things he was the
Finnish Champion in SchH) and so it was clear that my first dogs
were German shepherds which were called Jasu (Merisaimon
Jasser) and Aldo (Fankan
Renaldo, breeder Hillevi Oksanen).
After these German Shepherds I had tervueren males Elmo (Mustanaamion Ultimatum, breeder Mervi Aminoff) & Penni (Ajax-S, breeder Sirkka Taipale). Penni was imported from Sweden.
At the same time with Penni I had a groenendael bitch Pepsi (Hiidenkirnun
Michelin, breeder Tarja Hyttinen), which was my joy for 14
years. I bred two litters with Pepsi by the kennel name Hi-Tech.

Tervueren bitch Didy
de la Prairie de la Sommerau, (breeder Francis Rauner,
kennel La
Prairie de la Sommerau) known as ”Centti”came along as a pal
to Pepsi. She was an import from France by Tarja Hyttinen
(kennel Hiidenkirnun). Tarja bred one litter with her
(Hiidenkirnun P-litter) and the father was
Ulysse du Parc de Pathyvel. Unfortunately Centti started having epileptic-type
seizures as an adult. Similar type seizures also occurred in
several of the P-puppies. Centti lived however to be 13 years
old.
Because of Centti’s seizures the breeder Francis Rauner wanted
to give me a puppy as compensation.
I decided to take a tervueren bitch, so I imported Saga, Saga
de la Prairie de la Sommerau, 2002 from France. Saga lived
as a placement with Jaana Alm until she was 4 years old and is
now owned by her. |

I fell in love with black Belgians with Pepsi and so the black
bitch Black
Master’s Generous Genie called
Gini came to my household. I was forced to put
Gini down in the
spring of 2008 because of mastitis tumours. She was 13 years
old. I already had
Nitro and
Ziggy then.
Putte is the first small dog I have ever owned. However, I think
he believes himself to be a big, strong Belgian shepherd...
Some dog club activities of mine:
* along with Tarja Hyttinen started the local Belgian club
(Susirajan belgit) about 20 years ago (the offical local club
was founded ten years ago) and I have been the chair for
Susirajan belgit since 1998
* secretary for the
Belgian Shepherd Dog Association of Finland
for 3 years
* the chair of the
Belgian Shepherd Dog Association of Finland
show committee
* member & vice member and secretary of the local working dog
club (JOSEPA)
* one of the founders of the club magazine of
JOSEPA at the beginning of the 80s and editor of the magazine for 11 years
* ring-steward since 1987
* a board member of North-Karelia Kennel district for three
years
* different tasks in tests, shows and events
